The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,
has in a strongly-worded statement, expressed disgust at allegations
that he led the process to bribe some supreme Court justices to
influence the outcome of the election petition.
The allegation,
according to reports, was in a form of an article published in the New
Free Press newspaper, and the subject of a newspaper review discussion
on a Kumasi-based radio station.
But in a rather terse statement,
signed by 15 sub-chiefs acting on behalf of the Asantehene, the Manhyia
Palace threatened to take action against those perpetrating the rumour
whiles stating that they are “disgusted by the writer's false and
malicious allegation of the Asantehene's complicity in the whole article
and the subsequent comments thereof from individuals which can best be
described as reprehensible and insulting”.
Read below the full statement issued by the chiefs.
"The
attention of Manhyia Palace has been drawn to a publication in the New
Free Press on 4th September, 2013 which was aired on Kessben F.M. Radio
as part of its morning Newspaper Review on Monday 9th September, 2013 .
"In
the said article it was stated that some Justices of the Supreme Court
were bribed to give Judgement in favour of the 1st Respondent, John
Dramani Mahama.
"The article further intimated that Otumfuo Osei
Tutu II, Asantehene, was the conduit through whom the bribery
negotiation was effected. Manhyia Palace is disgusted by the writer's
false and malicious allegation of the Asantehene's complicity in the
whole article and the subsequent comments thereof from individuals which
can best be described as reprehensible and insulting.
"The Palace wishes to inform all that an appropriate response will be given in due course. Thank you." |
